Part of the Puzzle

Puzzle pieces

I have a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle of a Giant Panda that myself and Mum been trying to put together for over a year now (possibly closer to two years). We started off going really well, but then got stuck on some of the large areas of black fur and brown tree trunk. The semi-completed puzzle spent six months under a bed gathering dust, but is now back on the dining table and I'm vowing not to move it until it's finished and framed (I'm certainly not pulling it all apart again!).

I was just sitting there this afternoon grabbing random black pieces and trying to fit them into every available...

Memory Lane

Memory Lane

I recently came across some YouTube videos of old TV shows I used to watch growing up. They brought back lots of fond memories for me, so I thought I'd share some of them here with you.

Update: September 2017

This was originally two separate posts (parts 1 & 2) with embedded YouTube videos. However most of those videos no longer work, so I've removed the videos and linked to the shows' Wikipedia articles instead.

Randomness, predestination and free will

Funny cartoon

While listening to the "In Our Time" podcast recently with some friends, specifically the "Random and Pseudorandom" episode, the topic of predestination vs. free will came up.

I made the statement that, as a Christian, I don't think anything is truly random - God created everything with, and for, a purpose. Just because we can't see a pattern or logic in something doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.

Take Pi for example; the podcast discussed whether the digits of Pi are random, saying that it is likely they are as we can't find any pattern or logic to them. But unless we possess infinite...

I'm an Uncle!

Josiah Thomas Anderson

Josiah Thomas Anderson, my first nephew, was born one week ago today; 10th March 2010 at 5:48pm. He weighed 3.3kg (7lb 5oz) and was 48cm long, born to Stephen and Megan Anderson.

He's the first of his generation in our family - our first nephew, Mum and Dad's first grandchild and Nanna's first great-grandchild. We're all very pleased everything went well and look forward to spoiling him heaps ;)

I originally bought a nice stuffed Panda bear which I was going to give him when he was born, but it was stolen off my desk at work... :(
A friend then suggested buying him a blanket with a panda...

New House

Our new house in Coffs Harbour

Ok, so it's been a while since my last post... But can you blame me? We just moved house!

For as long as I can remember (since I was about 2), we've lived in Sandy Beach. We'd been thinking about moving for a while, and at one stage actually put our house up on the market. Since we couldn't get the price we wanted, we decided to stay where we were.

A few years on, we were suddenly discussing the prospect of moving again.

A few internet searches and house inspections later and we had found a nice, two-story brick home in Coffs Harbour. We made an offer and it was accepted. All the...
